Remembering Morry

It has been a year since our herd's one and only boar, the fluffy Peruvian Morry, left to join the other piggies at Rainbow Bridge - taking a piece of our hearts with him. He certainly wasn't the first pig our humans lost, but that didn't make the loss any less difficult to bear.

Piggy Songs: Volume II

As you may or may not have heard, whee were all given a bath over the wheekend. This was most displeasing to us because like the majority of pigs out there, we greatly dislike baths.

Several of our piggy friends agree, and created an anti-bath campaign to express our displeasure to the humans (wheek at them on Twitter @ im_still_hungrywiggly_tumnusNellie_Wheek, and Winks_Cobayo).

Here is our Angry Bath Peeg theme song, can you guess what the humans version of this song is?

Pigs using plates and food bowls

Belka and Revy share a meal

Further proving that whee piggies do have table manners, here are pigtures of us cleaning off our dinner plates! Although, our humans tell us that these are actually more like food bowls, but what do they know about tableware anyways.

Secrets of Fleece Bedding for Guinea Pigs Revealed - Part I, Basic Overview and Benefits

Coppy & Morry cuddling together for a nap on Carefresh bedding

Since our post featuring our cage setup, we pigs have had some interest in the type of bedding we use. Increasingly, more guinea pig owners are choosing to turn to alternative bedding. We switched from traditional bedding (wood chips and Carefresh) to fleece bedding a bit over a year ago. Fleece bedding is a layering combination of fleece fabric and towels.

How it works
In traditional wood chip or paper bedding, a piggy's excrement soaks and mixes into the material, which remains damp. In contrast, properly prepared fleece bedding allows the urine to pass straight through the fleece, so the piggy's bottom and the top layer remain dry. Towels placed underneath the top layer of fleece absorb any liquids that pass through while piggy poops remain on top.

Revy's piggy tongue!

"Where's my carrot??"

Our humans were cuddling Revy the other day and managed to capture these pigtures where you can see her cute little guinea pig tongue! For some reason, they think this is really cute. Obviously, carrot bribes (specifically, baby organic peeled carrots) were involved, or else whee might not have these shots to share with you. Click for closeups of her piggy nose and lips...

Begging for wheatgrass

When whee don't get to go outside and graze on the lawn, wheatgrass is the next best thing! All of us love eating wheatgrass. So when our humans bring us some, whee can't help but stand up, wave our paws, beg, and try to be as cute as possible so they give large amounts to us, with all due haste!

Who says guinea pigs don't have table manners?

Sneaking a slice of watermelon straight off the humans fork!

For today's Piggy Pic of the Day, here are some funny pigtures that prove whee guinea pigs do have table manners!

As the story goes, our human was studying one day while cuddling Coppy next to her on the desk. They like us to keep them company sometimes when they are busy doing things, so they can talk to us and we can wheek at them. Whee are pretty used to this and don't mind, especially because whee are well compensated for our time with veggie treats, pets, cheek rubs, and compliments.

Whee are now on Facebook!

Enjoying our new cushioned cozy

Our favorite new toy from last weekend's OCCH Pignic is without a doubt, Gin Gin's Comfy Cozy. This isn't your average everyday fleece cozy - these are insulated so when you snuggle up for a nap in one, you get to really enjoy being cushioned and pampered! Because what piggy ISN'T royalty?

PiggyPoems: On world domination

Hard at work

Coppy took a brief interlude from her daily piggy world domination plans to compose these lovely haikus:

Wheek out loud you may,
But world takeover's a must
For all cavykind!

OCCH Pignic!

Last weekend our humans went to Orange County Cavy Haven's Pignic! What's a pignic? Well, its like a picnic, except with guinea pigs - except in this case, with many pigs, so it was essentially one big piggy party. Sadly, whee did not get to attend because our humans didn't want to put us through the long drive, but here are some of the pigtures they showed us.

Guinea Pig Care & Health Tip: A bigger cage means a healthier pig!

The bigger your piggy's cage is, the healthier and happier he or she will be! As a general rule, pet store cages are far too small for guinea pigs. Cubes and coroplast cages, more commonly known in the guinea pig community as C&C cages, are a great and inexpensive alternative to the constrictive cages sold at pet stores. A larger cage will provide your pigs with more exercise area, stimulation, play space, and room to explore - resulting in a happier, healthier and fitter pig.

Guinea Pig Care & Health Tip: Weigh me weekly!

Me, Truffle, waiting for my weighing

Hello, Truffle here! Today I will be talking about weight. Many humans don't realize that a guinea pig's weight is a telling sign of his or her health. In many cases when whee become ill, weight loss and a decreased appetite are some of the first indicators. It is good practice to get in the habit of regularly weighing your piggies, recording their weights, and familiarizing yourself with their average weights and fluctuations.

Synchronized chewing with Morry and Coppy

Morry and Coppy show off their synchronized chewing skills in this short video clip. This was taken after our twice-weekly weighing, when our slaves give us a veggie treat for participating like good little piggies.

Piggy Songs: Volume I

Everybody knows that humans have hit songs. But not as many are aware that whee guinea piggies have our own songs too! Can you guess the human version of this one?
