Piggy Songs: All Poof Wants For Christmas Is Food

111129

Welcome to Piggy Songs, Volume V holiday edition, presented by Poof - who has been feeling extra festive and hungry recently. Hence why she is chewing and wearing a piggy sized Santa hat. She has had quite a vociferous appetite lately and headbutts all us other piggies during mealtime altercations over choice greens. Once she even hissed at Peaches!

Decorating our guinea pig Christmas tree

To most people, Black Friday means hauling yourself to the nearest electronics retailer at an obscenely early hour to brawl over the latest gaming system and unnecessarily large TVs. To our humans, it means a chance to nab a few extra towels to use under our bedding, browse quality kitchen tools, and most importantly - pick out ornaments to hang on our own special guinea pig Christmas tree! Now that is what discounts are for. As an added bonus, nobody ever feels passionate enough about basic home goods to engage in skirmishes so such retailers are refreshingly mob-free.

Where did the fleece go?

Truffle: What is this @#$%? Where did all my fleece go??

Where did all our comfy fleece bedding go?? Well, apparently today was Cage Changing Day, so our humans took our soiled fleece and towels to be washed. (Our palatial cage is changed and the surroundings vacuumed twice a week. )

It's Normal for Guinea Pigs to Eat Their Own Poop

Have you ever seen your guinea pig dip his head down between his hind legs, then come up for air chewing on something? If so, then you've witnessed your piggy eating his own poops. This is known as coprophagy, or coprophagia. Don't stop your piggy if you see him or her doing this! Although humans might find this odd or distasteful, coprophagy is an essential part of the digestive process and is considered perfectly normal behavior for a guinea pig.*

Happy Thanksgiving!

Whee would like to wish everypiggy and everyone a Happy Thanksgiving Day! There are so many things we piggies have to be thankful for, such as food, fresh grass, quality hay, a spacious cage, a warm cozy room for the winter, and devoted piggy slaves.

Coppy the cuddle cavy

Sleeping Coppy

Nothing like curling up for a nap after a delicious leafy meal of greens! Our humans always enjoy cuddle time with us guinea piggies and think its especially cute when we stretch out on the couch next to them.

Out on the lawn

Now that autumn is winding down and chilly winter fronts have begun blowing in, we no longer get to play and munch grass outside on the lawn. Since whee guinea pigs are particularly susceptible to upper respiratory infections (URIs), our humans don't let us go out for fear of us catching a draft. Such a shame, especially since the grass finally started to grow back in again.

Revy loves strawberries

"Gimme berry now!"

Yes, guinea pigs can have strawberries as treats! As you can tell by her piggy tongue, Revy loves strawberries.

Guinea Pig Magazine, a piggy lover's dream

"I'm a pretty crested too, can I be a piggy model?" -Truffle

If you consider yourself a cavy slave, then you'll without a doubt love Guinea Pig Magazine. While there are scores of dog and cat magazines on the market, hardly any are devoted exclusively to guinea pigs. The few cavy magazines that do exist are mainly targeted at breeders, and therefore are not well suited for the general public. For the average guinea pig owner hoping to learn more about the proper care of guinea pigs, GPM is a great fit.

Our Channel Poo nail trimming interview

"Noooo, not the nail clipper!" -Revy

Today whee piggies here at the Cali Cavy Collective had the privilege of being interviewed about guinea pig nail trimming by the Channel Poo News team (composed of guinea pigs Sherlock, Gandalf and Mr.Tumnus on Twitter). It was great fun and we really enjoyed the interview with anchorpig Sherlock.

For those of you who missed it, here's the transcript of today's news report (11/15/2011). Enjoy!

Dirty piggy chin

Occasionally we piggies are a bit overzealous when eating our veggies, and end up with green juices dripping down the sides of our furry chins.

Rowdy piggy lineup

Some of the very first pigtures taken of all of us together, we believe this was our first guinea pig lineup! As you can see, we guinea pigs have a mind of our own and do not always want to sit still or cooperate...
