Let Sleeping Pigs Lie guinea pig beds

Let Sleeping Pigs Lie fleece guinea pig beds

We pigs have been thoroughly enjoying the Let Sleeping Pigs Lie beds that our humans won for us from the Bay Area Pignic. These padded beds feature sherpa fleece on one side, cotton on the other and are decorated with adorable guinea pig embroidery.

To the left is a Super Mat Bed in pink and to the right is a Puffy Bed in blue. Here is a demonstration of how we have been using our LSPL beds:

2012 Bay Area Pignic

The Bay Area Pignic was great fun for both piggies and humans alike. Guinea pigs of all shapes and sizes munched on grass, snoozed in the shade or tucked themselves in hideaways while their owners socialized nearby. Conversations about grooming and boar cleansings could be heard at the nail trimming station while talk of everything from bedding to favorite foods to cages and health topics abounded. Errant wheeks and the familiar sound of pig protests punctuated the air.

We set up a small enclosure for Revy and Abby-Roo under a portable sun umbrella (instant shade!). Unaccustomed to the unfamiliar environment, Revy was relatively well behaved and even managed to keep the people chomping to a minimum.

¿Donde esta mi pepino?

Like countless other guinea pigs, Abby-Roo and Revy have perfected the woeful take-pity-and-feed-me-now-before-I-expire-of-starvation face. They employ this heart wrenching expression indiscriminately regardless of the amount of leftovers they have scattered about the cage.

Caught in the act

Coprophagy is an essential part of the guinea pigs digestive process as it allows them to maximize the nutrients they can derive from their diet.

Defensive eating tactics

Defensive eating tactics

Upon receiving their daily share of cucumber, the pigs always hold their slice firmly between their teeth while beating a hasty retreat to the nearest unoccupied pigloo. The purpose of this is to ensure food security while maximizing the ability to consume as much as possible before poachers close in.

An unexplained episode and more x-rays

120901

Belka managed to give everyone quite a scare last night. The following is a chronological breakdown of events that cumulated in an emergency vet visit, x-rays, and one very disgruntled guinea pig.

1 AM: Spotted three small patches of urine with blood around/in the newly changed cage. An inspection of the occupants revealed the culprit to be Belka, who had a small amount of blood visible in the Y crevasse of her genital opening.
