The idea behind a cavy cozy is simple enough: a cushioned hideaway made of fleece to keep your guinea pigs snug and their bottoms dry. Like Truffle, many pigs prefer to use cozies how they were intended by tucking themselves into the sheltered pocket.

Cavy cozy habits
The idea behind a cavy cozy is simple enough: a cushioned hideaway made of fleece to keep your guinea pigs snug and their bottoms dry. Like Truffle, many pigs prefer to use cozies how they were intended by tucking themselves into the sheltered pocket.

Inter-cavy communications
Truffle and Poof sharing a moment. Poof usually doesn't tolerate other pigs invading her personal space but on this occasion allowed Truffle to snuffle at her ear.

Demanding eaters
Despite the fresh bowl of organic red and green baby lettuce leaves behind them, Abby-Roo and Revy were still not satisfied with the options on the table.

Guinea Pig Bedding: Using Fleece and U-haul Furniture Pads
You would think that the words "cavy" and "U-haul" don't belong in the same sentence. Lately we've been trying out washable U-haul furniture pads with our usual fleece bedding arrangement and have been quite pleased with the results. When used as a cage liner underneath the fleece and towels, this unexpected material helps to reduce odor while extending the length of time between changings.

Laundry day
This is how the cavy supply closet ends up after all the pig laundry has been washed. A veritable mountain of towels and fleece teeters several feet high, nearly at eye level.

What's in our fridge: Radicchio
We first came upon radicchio in a Trader Joe's salad bag of mixed greens. When Belka, Truffle, Peaches, and Poof began to regularly engage in tug-of-war battles over this unusually colored leaf, it became obvious that radicchio was a favorite. Since there was rarely enough to go around, we sought it out and integrated it into the cavy vegetable rotation.

Picture perfect cavies
Photo sessions rarely go smoothly when unruly cavies are the subjects - especially when not one, but six disorderly pigs are involved. Achieving a group lineup similar to this one from last year requires an abundance of patience, edible bribes, and pig wrangling.

Sleeping peegs
Belka generally dislikes having to snuggle with another pig - she prefers being the sole recipient of adoration and enjoys having the space to stretch out. On the other hand, Truffle is more content when being cuddled in another cavy's company.
