Deck the cage!

Now that the cage has finally been decorated, all the piggies are officially ready for Christmas! We cordially invite you to take a tour of the holiday cage.

Belka, Truffle, Peaches and Poof's quarters boasts poinsettia printed fleece, cozies to curl up in, puffy fleece beds, and a red sleigh.

Two Santa Cavy stockings (one per every two pigs) hang from the loft, waiting to be filled with parsley or cilantro.

Next door, Revy and Abby-Roo's abode features a reindeer covered hut, snowman themed cozy and a burgundy fleece "forest" to run through.

Even though Revy has different sleeping options to choose from, she is occasionally content just to sprawl out in front of the hay rack.

Both cages were festooned with holiday lights and glistening garlands. However, safety precautions were taken to ensure that mischievous pigs could not access any of the decor.

To pig proof the setup, all decorations were strung behind acrylic backed C&C grids so naughty pigs can't chew on cords through the bars (to see a tutorial, follow the link here). Tents created by draping extra fleece over the loft and cage corners provide for a safe barrier against curious cavy teeth. Tinsel may look enticing, but it certainly isn't meant to be eaten!

That concludes this year's Cali Cavy Collective holiday cage tour. Have a great wheek-end!

  3. How do you decorate a pig cage (that doesn't have fleece in it.)for Christmas? And for cheap?

    1. Raina, you could drape extra towels over the cage to form a towel tent, then string lights or tinsel over it (to make sure decor can't be chewed on).

    1. Ottersblog, I go over the fleece with a small handheld vacuum 1-2x per day and change all the bedding every 2-3 days.
