Guinea Pig Speak: Ready to Go


As you get to know your pig's personality, you'll learn that each cavy has their own method of communicating. One time it pays to be attentive is during cuddle time - all the better to avoid a wet lap. My girls use a few common signals to get their point across when they're ready to go home.

Guinea Pig Sounds: Purring



Similar to cats, some guinea pigs purr when they are pleased or content. You may hear this vocalization from your cavy when they are being petted or during cuddle time. Some pigs will also purr after being given one of their favorite foods.

Noisy cuddle pigs



Belka and Poof tend to talk a lot when they're being petted during cuddle time. On their own, each pig settles in with a quiet muttering but when held together their voices combine to form a squeaky duet. You can hear their vocalizations in the video above.

Sharing hay and grass



It was surprisingly sunny out yesterday (73 degrees F) so we piggies got to sit outside and munch on timothy hay while one of our slaves changed our cages indoors.

Revy's SuperWheek



A video featuring Revy's super loud wheek! The rest of us were quite startled the first few times she did this.. none of us had ever squealed so loudly before in our lives. We quickly learned that her earsplitting wheek is a good thing though because if anything, it makes our slaves move even faster to give all of us food.

Here's more Piggyspeak, brought to you by Coppy, Morry and Sharky! Coppy is the one purring when being petted, while Sharky and Morry are the ones squeaking. This video was taken by the slaves when Morry was a baby, so he sounds particularly squeaky here. You can hear him starting from 0:22 in the video.
