The Tale of Abby-Roo: A Guinea Pig Adoption Story

Once upon a time in a land far, far away - California - there lived five pampered guinea pigs with their doting piggy slave.

The pigs had everything they could ask for: fresh veggies, delicious hay, spacious C&C cages, frequent hugs, and even outings where they could graze on tasty grass. Four of the pigs got along splendidly and lived together, but the last pig didn't get along with anybody and so, lived alone.

A big fan of everything soft and fleecy, Poof picked this cozy spot in the loft to curl up for a nap. Surrounded by cushions on almost all sides, she was twitching her ears mid-slumber in no time.

Cavy Couch Syndrome

This is what it looks like when three guinea pigs full from their evening meal conquer one well trained human to use as their personal piggy couch.

Truffle, Belka, and Peaches provided the perfect illustration of Cavy Couch Syndrome: a classic condition where the afflicted piggy slave has been employed as a couch and is prevented from moving for fear of rousing a happily settled peeg. Common symptoms include feelings of fondness, guilt at moving, or numbness in the utilized limbs.

Finally, a place to organize all those guinea pig related links! I've been using Pinterest to keep track of cute piggy products, interesting cage ideas, beautiful cavy portraits, adorable cartoons, and favorite guinea pig memes - among other things.

Poof's pellet bowl maneuver

Every morning Belka, Truffle, Peaches, and Poof run to the food bowl when they hear the alarm clock go off. By the time someone opens the door to their room all four are waiting in formation for their morning pellets. (In contrast, Revy and Abby-Roo could never be bothered by something so mundane.)

Lettuce? What lettuce?

"Lettuce? What lettuce? I see no lettuce!" -Belka

Belka got a little too enthusiastic with dinner the other day. After she pulled her head out of the food bowl she had a leaf of lettuce draped square across her face.

How to Build a C&C Guinea Pig Bunk Bed

The newest additions to our C&C cage setup are guinea pig bunk beds. The pigs have quickly taken to their new furnishings with enthusiasm. Peaches enjoys using the top bunk as a retreat from her piggy sisters. Revy has become fond of snoozing in the lofty perch. Truffle can often be seen hopping upstairs for a nap while Belka springs up to sniff around for snacks. Meanwhile, Poof and Abby-Roo appreciate the privacy of the lower bunk.

We were inspired to make our own bunk beds after seeing these piggies. Since these standalone units don't take up much floor space, they're great especially if you don't have room for a loft. Best of all they're easy and quick to build, particularly if you have extra C&C supplies on hand. Here's a tutorial on how to build bunk beds for your own piggies.
